NOMA: Building a Research Infrastructure for Developing Countries

DescriptionThis conference examined the opportunities and challenges associated with collection, processing, and evaluation of clinical specimens from NOMA patients worldwide. Current methods of specimen collection are not appropriate for determining the etiology and pathogenesis of this devastating disease. NOMA is one of the priority items of the International Collaborative Research initiative of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) that will greatly benefit from the outcome of this meeting and may lead to accelerated research on rare disease in collaboration with international agencies such as the World Health Organization ( WHO), World Bank, and Wellcome Trust.
