Classically, primary microcephaly is a clinical diagnosis made when an individual has a head circumference more than 3 standard deviations (SD) below the age- and sex-matched population mean, and mental retardation with no other associated malformations and with no apparent etiology ({4:Hofman, 1984}). Patients with WDR62 mutations have head circumferences ranging from low-normal to severe (-9.8 SD), and most patients with brain scans have shown various types of cortical malformations. All have delayed psychomotor development; seizures are variable (summary by {9:Yu et al., 2010}).\\n\\nFor a general phenotypic description and a discussion of genetic heterogeneity of primary microcephaly, see MCPH1 ({251200}).","GARD_Name__c":"Microcephaly 2, primary, autosomal recessive, with or without cortical malformations","GARD_Synonym__c":"microcephaly 2, primary, autosomal recessive, with cortical malformations","Curated_Disease_Description_Source__c":"PlainLanguagePilotV2-Jan24","Curated_Disease_Description__c":"Autosomal recessive primary microcephaly 2, with or without cortical malformations, is a rare genetic disorder. It that affects brain development. It is characterized by a significantly smaller-than-average head circumference. Symptoms also include intellectual disability that presents at birth or shortly after. This condition may also cause various types of cortical malformations in the brain. These malformations affect thinking, planning, and complex behaviors. Most people with this condition experience delayed psychomotor development, behavior problems, and seizures. It is caused by mutations in the WDR62 gene. As the name suggests, this condition is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. This means that two copies of the mutated gene are required to cause the disease.","Curated_USA_Estimate_Source__c":null,"Curated_USA_Estimate__c":null,"Age_at_Onset_Snippet_Text__c":null,"SourceID__c":"OMIM:604317","Deprecated__c":"No","Disease_Concept_Type__c":"Rare Disease Entity","MONDO_ID__c":"MONDO:0011435","ORPHANET_ID__c":null,"Replaced_By_ID__c":null,"Display_Spanish_Disease_Name__c":null,"Spanish_Description_Source__c":null,"Spanish_Description__c":null,"Spanish_Disease_Name__c":null,"Spanish_GARD_Synonym__c":null,"Category_Linearization__c":null,"icd10_id__c":null,"mesh_id__c":null,"omim_id__c":null,"snomed_id__c":null,"umls_id__c":null,"GARD_Disease__c":[{"Curated_Disease_Description__c":"Autosomal recessive primary microcephaly 2, with or without cortical malformations, is a rare genetic disorder.
