It is characterized by skin colored, brown, or reddish, wart-like papules (nevi). The nevi join to form patches or plaques that often follow a pattern on the skin known as the \"lines of Blaschko\". The affected areas of the skin may be red, itchy, and inflamed. ILVEN typically presents from birth to early childhood and often is limited to one side of the lower half of the body. It affects females more often than males. It usually occurs alone; however, rarely ILVEN can be associated with other symptoms as part of an epidermal nevus syndrome. Rarely, ILVEN can become cancerous (for example, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma). ILVEN is caused by a genetic change that occurs after conception (somatic genetic change). How this alteration leads to the signs and symptoms of ILVEN is not well understood.","GARD_Name__c":"Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus","GARD_Synonym__c":"ilven; ilven - inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus","Curated_Disease_Description_Source__c":"GARD:0005484","Curated_Disease_Description__c":"This rare skin disease is a type of epidermal nevus, which is an overgrowth of the top layer of the skin. It causes small, wart-like bumps that may be skin colored, brown, or red and that tend to line up in streaks or swirls on the skin known as the lines of Blaschko. These bumps can join together to form thicker patches or plaques that are often red, itchy, and inflamed. The disease usually appears at birth or in early childhood and often affects only one side of the lower body. It occurs more often in females and usually appears by itself, although in rare cases it can be part of a larger syndrome with other symptoms. Very rarely, skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma can develop in the affected skin. This disease is caused by a genetic change that happens after conception, but exactly how this change leads to the skin findings is not well understood.","Curated_USA_Estimate_Source__c":null,"Curated_USA_Estimate__c":null,"Age_at_Onset_Snippet_Text__c":null,"SourceID__c":"ORPHA:79466","Deprecated__c":"No","Disease_Concept_Type__c":"Rare Disease Entity","MONDO_ID__c":"MONDO:0019318","ORPHANET_ID__c":"ORPHA:79466","Replaced_By_ID__c":null,"Display_Spanish_Disease_Name__c":"Nevo epidérmico verrugoso inflamatorio linear","Spanish_Description_Source__c":null,"Spanish_Description__c":null,"Spanish_Disease_Name__c":"nevo epidérmico verrugoso inflamatorio linear","Spanish_GARD_Synonym__c":null,"Category_Linearization__c":"ORPHA:89826","icd10_id__c":null,"mesh_id__c":null,"omim_id__c":null,"snomed_id__c":null,"umls_id__c":null,"GARD_Disease__c":[{"Curated_Disease_Description__c":"This rare skin disease is a type of epidermal nevus, which is an overgrowth of the top layer of the skin.
