(2001)} reported cytogenetic studies of 6 cases of radiation-induced meningiomas. Two of the cases occurred after radiation for tinea capitis, after an interval of 17 and 54 years, respectively; in the first of these cases, local recurrence occurred after an additional period of 29 years. Using spectral karyotyping (SKY) and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), {1:Zattara-Cannoni et al. (2001)} found that all 6 cases had the same chromosome abnormality, t(1;22)(p11;q12). They suggested that a gene on chromosome 1p11 is involved in radiation-induced meningiomas. A locus in the 22q12.3-qter region is a well-established site of mutation causing meningioma (see {156100}).","GARD_Name__c":"Radiation-induced meningioma","GARD_Synonym__c":null,"Curated_Disease_Description_Source__c":"PlainLanguagePilotV1-Sep23","Curated_Disease_Description__c":"Meningioma is a type of brain tumor that can sometimes be caused by radiation therapy. This means that after receiving radiation treatment, a person may develop another cancer later on. In a study of six people with radiation-induced meningiomas, researchers found that all of them also had the same chromosome abnormality. This suggests that a difference in a gene on chromosome 1p11 may be involved in causing radiation-induced meningiomas. Another area of the chromosome, 22q12.3-qter, is also known to be a common site of mutation that can cause meningiomas.","Curated_USA_Estimate_Source__c":null,"Curated_USA_Estimate__c":null,"Age_at_Onset_Snippet_Text__c":null,"SourceID__c":"OMIM:606190","Deprecated__c":"No","Disease_Concept_Type__c":"Rare Disease Entity","MONDO_ID__c":"MONDO:0011648","ORPHANET_ID__c":null,"Replaced_By_ID__c":null,"Display_Spanish_Disease_Name__c":null,"Spanish_Description_Source__c":null,"Spanish_Description__c":null,"Spanish_Disease_Name__c":null,"Spanish_GARD_Synonym__c":null,"Category_Linearization__c":null,"icd10_id__c":null,"mesh_id__c":null,"omim_id__c":null,"snomed_id__c":null,"umls_id__c":null,"GARD_Disease__c":[{"Curated_Disease_Description__c":"Meningioma is a type of brain tumor that can sometimes be caused by radiation therapy.
