People with HLRCC do have an increased risk for renal cell cancer. It is estimated that about 10% to 16% of people with HLRCC develop this type of cancer. However, it is not possible to predict which individuals with HLRCC will develop the cancer. It is also not possible to predict the age at which they might develop it, or how aggressive the cancer might be. Currently there is not evidence to suggest that having many leiomyomas further increases an affected person's risk for kidney cancer. However, all people with HLRCC should be carefully monitored and screened by a specialist.
