Disease at a Glance
Summary
A rare, congenital, heart malformation characterized by anomalous origin of one branch of the pulmonary arteries directly from the aorta and a normal origin of the other pulmonary artery from the main pulmonary artery coming from the right ventricular outflow tract. Patients present respiratory distress, congestive heart failure and failure to thrive within the first days/months of life.

Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart and blood vessels, including the arteries, veins, and capillaries. Common symptoms of problems in the cardiovascular system include high blood pressure, heart rate or heart rhythm problems, chest pain or discomfort, pain or tingling in the hands or feet, and fatigue. Diseases of the cardiovascular system may be diagnosed and treated by a cardiologist.

- Discuss the clinical study with a trusted medical provider before enrolling
- Review the "Study Description," which discusses the purpose of the study, and "Eligibility Criteria," which lists who can and cannot participate in the study
- Work with the research coordinator to review the written informed consent, including the risks and benefits of the study
- Inquire about the specific treatments and procedures, location of the study, number of visits, and time obligation
- Determine whether health insurance is required and whether there are costs to the participant for the medical care, travel, and lodging
- Ask questions. Remember, it is okay to decide not to participate in research
