If my mother has Chagas disease, what is the chance that I or my children have it also?
Chagas disease is not genetic nor transmitted from person-to-person like a cold or the flu. There are a few scenarios in which an infected relative may transmit the disease. A pregnant woman can pass Chagas disease to her baby. Additionally, an individual who is infected with Chagas disease who then donates blood or organs can infect the recipient.
