X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. On average, people affected by AMN begin to develop features of the condition in their late twenties. Signs and symptoms may include progressive (worsening overtime) stiffness and weakness of the legs; ataxia; speech difficulties; adrenal insufficiency; sexual dysfunction; and bladder control issues. Some affected people may also have brain involvement which can lead to behavioral abnormalities, vision loss, hearing problems and/or seizures. AMN is caused by changes (mutations) in the ABCD1 gene and is inherited in an X-linked manner.
