Overview

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a condition characterized by sudden onset of memory loss and confusion. Affected people are often disoriented in regard to time and place, but usually remember their identity and can recognize family members. TGA typically lasts for several hours, and rarely for up to 24 hours. While most people have only one episode of TGA during their lifetime, 5-25% of people have a recurrence. The underlying cause of TGA is unclear. There is no specific treatment for TGA. It resolves on it's own, but memory for events during the episode may be lost.[1][2]
